160,000 set to depart Manchester Airport over Easter weekend

With Easter no very much on the horizon, Manchester Airport is now gearing up for the summer season ahead, which is set to be its busiest year on record.

Before that, however, more than 160,000 passengers will be departing from the UK’s third busiest airport over the long weekend.

The most popular destinations are set to be:

• Tenerife

• Amsterdam

• Alicante

• Dublin

• Malaga

• Dubai

As the airport is set to be busier, passengers are reminded to allow extra time to complete their airport journey.

This includes getting to the airport, as roads can be busier over the Easter weekend, and getting through the airport itself.

It also means leaving plenty of time for check in and security.

Passengers can ease the security process by removing gloves, scarves, coats and belts before entering the security hall, and having all their liquids, gels and pastes less than 100ml and in a clear plastic bag. Plastic bags are available free of charge from the airport.

The UK’s global gateway in the North will also be celebrating a major milestone this summer, as in June it will turn 80 years old.

In an effort to ease congestion within the airport’s drop-off areas, from June, Manchester Airport will be introducing charges for drivers dropping passengers off at all three of its terminals.

Once the scheme is launched, drivers will be charged an express drop-off fee of £3 for stays of up to five minutes, or £4 for six to ten minute stops.
