For the sixteenth consecutive year, traders in Alderley Edge will be hosting a Christmas light switch on ceremony – this year taking place on Thursday 22nd November.
London Road will be closed between George Street and Clifton Street (from 5pm until 10pm) with diversions in place to allow the flow of traffic to continue. The event itself will run from 6pm until 9pm.
There’ll be entertainment suitable for all ages on the main stage, and So Cheshire’s Susan Hanks will be overseeing proceedings in the village.
Acts on stage will showcase a variety of school choirs and other talented artists. Other highlights of this year’s event will be fairground rides and festive stalls.
As is tradition, the lights will be switched on at 7.15pm by the winners of the local primary schools poster competition along with a local celebrity.
Organisers remain tight-lipped about the identity of the celebrity, but one name that they are happy to share with us is that of Father Christmas!
He will be visiting during the early evening to meet the children, and ensure everyone is in festive spirits.
Event goers will also have the opportunity to visit the many fantastic businesses, retailers and food and drink outlets – many of whom will remain open after their usual closing time.
Mitch Gilbert, chairman of AETAG group which organises the annual event, said: “Now in its sixteenth year, we are looking forward to another great evening, as always it’s a fun evening and a chance for everyone to get together and celebrate the start of the festive season.”
