Audlem school children embrace self care

Shares

Audlem St James C.E. Primary School has become the first school in South Cheshire to be recognised for their embracing key health and wellbeing messages.

It’s the first school to have been awarded a Bronze Self Care Award by NHS South Cheshire CCG and NHS Vale Royal CCG as they continue their journey to help improve health and wellbeing.

Nantwich Museum was recently announced as the first recipient of the award.

Pupils at Audlem St James have been learning about the best ways to stay ‘sun safe’ during school and at home, finding out about UV readings and the best methods of self care during the summer weather.

Noreen Caldwell, public engagement and involvement manager at the CCGs, said: “I’ve been amazed by the way that both the teachers and pupils have embraced our self care messages and have been putting them into practice.

“Making sure that children know the best ways of staying fit and healthy in the summer months will help them keep that way for the rest of their lives.

“I can’t wait to see the work they do now to obtain our silver and gold awards.”

Rebecca Jewitt, headteacher at Audlem St James, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the Bronze Self Care Award in recognition of our partnership work with children, families and staff to promote lifelong sun safety skills.

“I am very proud of the commitment of the whole school community to this important awareness-raising work this year.

“I have been thrilled with the support we have received from parents, children and the whole staff team.

“Working with Sunsafe Schools resources, we have aimed to ensure that from midday assistants to office and teaching staff the message has been the same: follow the ‘5 Ss’ of Sun Safety: SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SLIDE and SHADE.”

“As a result, our pupils are knowledgeable about how to be Sun Smart and look after themselves in the wonderful summer weather we have all been enjoying recently.”

She added: ”We look forward to working with NHS South Cheshire CCG towards our Silver and Gold Self Care Awards in the future.”
