The barber is back!
Alderley Edge’s popular barber, Charlie Gaughan, is back at the heart of his local community again with a pop-up barber shop ‘The Chop Shop’ on London Road in the centre of the village.
Charlie’s return to taking up dedicated retail premises follows a decision earlier in the year to leave his previous shop on Trafford Road.
He told a local new site at the time: “I was closed last year for 20 weeks due to ill health. I had three ulcers burst and I nearly bled to death then the agent and landlord wanted to raise my rent by forty percent, that would have put my rates up.”
Following a stint whereby he set up a mobile barbering offering - cutting hair at his clients’ homes and offices - Charlie is now back on the high street and looking forward to growing his business once again.
Charlie told So Cheshire that the new barbers shop has been very well received, with a warm welcome from local gents despite having only opened the doors a few days ago.
“People have seen the barber’s pole outside and come in, it’s been great… and that’s just the first day or so,” he enthused.
After seven and a half years in the village, Charlie is well known throughout the area and he’s keen to get word out to customers that his pop-up barbers shop is now open, welcoming new and existing customers for approximately six months initially.
Charlie, who has been cutting hair for almost four decades, opened the doors of Trafford Road Barbers in 2010 to offer Alderley Edge a traditional gentleman's barber service.
The new shop can be found next-door to the Cancer Research shop on London Road which is run by Charlie’s wife, Helen.
