Chester shows support for NHS staff and key workers

Iconic landmarks in Chester will be illuminated in a blue to show support for all NHS staff and key workers during the current Coronavirus outbreak.

The Eastgate Clock, Chester Town Hall and Chester Amphitheatre will be illuminated in a blue light from Thursday 26th March (at 8pm) until Monday 30th March.

Cllr Karen Shore of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “We really wanted to do something to show our appreciation for the hard work being done by all NHS staff and all key workers during the current coronavirus outbreak.

“The Eastgate Clock is lit with LED technology, so it’s quite easy for our street lighting engineers to alter the colour.”

She added: “For the town hall and amphitheatre it’s just a case of swapping lamps and adding blue filters to the front of the lighting units.”

The blue lighting has been arranged to support a national online campaign asking everyone to show their support for NHS staff at 8pm on Thursday 26th March.
