Cheshire College – South & West has partnered with network services provider, Protos Networks, to deliver a Cybersecurity Awareness and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) Readiness course

It’s being run ahead of new EU data protection rules that take effect from 25th May 2018.

Aimed specifically at SMEs across Cheshire, the fully funded one-day course will provide a foundation to modern cyber threats and new conditions that businesses must adhere to with the upcoming GDPR changes.

Debbie Jackson, external projects manager at Cheshire College – South & West, commented: “Both subject matters are increasingly hot topics at the moment.

“It is crucial that businesses understand the impact of the new data regulations, as well as cyber security, as it can have dramatic cost implications on organisations if they are not geared up for it.”

The course has been developed as part of Fuse – an innovative concept in training designed to meet the STEM and digital skills needs of SME businesses in Cheshire and Warrington.

Debbie explained: “It aims to ensure that all those attending leave feeling confident about how to work more securely, along with the ability to create an action plan for compliance with GDPR.”

The day will be delivered by network solutions provider Protos Networks and consist of four key areas: improving cyber security awareness, knowing how to prepare your business for GDPR, understanding how to become GDPR compliant and getting to know the National Cyber Security Centre’s ‘10 Steps to Cyber Security’.

Joe Joinson, director and business coordinator at Protos Networks said: “We are delighted to be working with Cheshire College – South & West to facilitate this important course for businesses.

He added: “Many organisations are still finding a way to put themselves on a sound compliance footing by the time the regulation comes into effect in May.”

The one-day course will take place on 16th March at the college’s Ellesmere Port campus and on 27th March at its Chester Campus (both days run from 9am until 4.30pm).

SME organisations based in the Cheshire and Warrington area are eligible for a place on the course. Larger companies can also pay to attend with pre-registration required.
