Tarporley High students - ‘Young Artists in Tuscany Tour’

Year 13 art students travel to Tuscany

Six year 13 pupils from Tarporley High School, alongside head of art Mr Bowland, have just returned from an inspirational week exploring the Renaissance period in Tuscany.

They produced ambitious costumes and drawings, inspired by the Tuscan landscape, having been successful in securing a place on the prestigious Italian Art Education Tour for Cheshire schools.

Students Hannah Ashdown,  Isabella Ashdown, Minnie Leahy, Suki Le Hunte, Hatty Moss and Paige Warrington all submitted applications back in May this year and following a rigorous interview, with a scrutiny of their portfolio, all six were offered a place on the tour.

Many pupils who attend the tour, which has run since 1984, have used the opportunity as a spring board to gain places at prestigious universities, including Ruskin, Oxford and the Royal Academy, London.

Hannah Ashdown commented: “It is a life changing experience, one that will stay with me forever.”

Isabella Ashdown similarly commented: “It was an incredibly challenging week that required commitment and confidence, but the reward is an exciting sketchbook full of work.”

On his first teaching trip to Tuscany , Mr Bowland said: “I am incredibly proud to have had the opportunity to work with such talented students from across the county.

“Furthermore, to see our pupils rise to the challenge and produce such brave and assured work is a privilege and I cannot wait to see where this experience leads our next generation of artists.”

Following the week immersed in Italian culture, pupils Hatty Moss and Paige Warrington were awarded ‘Best Costume’ in their respective groups, while Minnie Leahy won ‘Best Sketchbook’ and Suki Le Hunte was presented with the ‘Art History’ award.
