A group of dads from Cheshire has been crowned as British champions in the SOAR British Street Dance Championships final.

Dynamic Dads from TGA Group in Crewe, beat the world champions in the Parents’ Street Dance competition held at Trafford Sports Dome in Manchester.

Dancing began only six months ago for the seven dads, who took to the floor for fun in the spirit of supporting their children who also compete.

Participating in regional competitions previously, Dynamic Dads’ British championship victory means that they are unbeaten since their first competition in September 2017.

Got to Dance winners, Chris Donnelly and Wes Clack, joined street dancer Turbo Dredd in judging the competition. Turbo has famously danced in music videos for Madonna, Will Smith and Mis-Teeq.

Martin Fisher, dancer with Dynamic Dads, said: “I’m still in shock that we won the title of SOAR British Champions in the parent’s category.

“I started the journey with fellow dads six months ago and never imagined that we would compete, never mind win competitions and titles.

“We wouldn’t be where we are now without the hard work and dedication of each member at the TGA Group.

“As they say, behind every successful man, stands a successful woman and this is true with us as our very own Miss Michaela choreographs our routines and works hard to train us all.”

Choreographer and TGA street dance teacher, Michaela Leanord said: “I’m so proud of how far the team has come in such a short space of time.

“They have all shown so much progress and have clearly been motivated by their quick success. The reaction from the crowd when it was announced that they had won, blew the roof off the building.

“All of the men have really got a buzz out of dancing. It’s great to see them training so hard for something that even twelve months ago, they would never have thought they’d be doing.”

Kya Glasheen, 13, whose dad was once of the dancers, said: “When I see my dad dancing I feel really proud of hi for getting up in front of thousands of people and dancing his heart out.

“It also makes me want to progress with my own dancing.”

The next competition for the dads will take place in April in Blackpool, where they will be going head-to-head against 11 other teams.
