As many readers may have noticed, Cheshire East Council is currently undertaking road safety improvements on the railway bride (Wilmslow Road/London Road) in Alderley Edge.
The railway bridge is currently closed at all times from the junction of Heyes Lane to the junction with Ryleys Lane while the work takes place.
The road was due to reopen on Sunday 19th August, however, during the work council highways teams discovered a cavity underneath a section of the footpath.
Investigations are ongoing, with the assistance of relevant utility companies, to determine the cause of the cavity.
The road will now not reopen until it is safe to do so.
Additional resources have been assigned, and the highways teams will be assigned extended hours to complete investigations as swiftly as possible.
Members of the public are advised to plan their journey using the signed diversion routes.
Businesses remain open as usual.
Further updates will be posted via the @CECHighways Twitter account.
A council spokesperson said: “We thank motorists, businesses and residents for their patience during this necessary work.”
