Mystery artist wanted!

Chester Mystery Plays 2018 seek an artist in residence

Drawing by Dai Owen: 2013 Chester Mystery Plays

Chester Mystery Plays is returning to Chester Cathedral in June 2018 for its next major production (you can read more about that, here).

This spectacular community theatre event will be performed by a cast of around 200 adults and children, and produced by a professional production team.

In 2008 and 2013 the company was privileged to work with artists in residence Tony Lewery and Dai Owen respectively (you can see Dai’s evocative drawings on the plays’ website: chestermysteryplays.com).

“This is a great opportunity for an artist (in any visual arts or literary medium) to extend and develop their practice by documenting the Plays,” commented Mystery Plays’ chair, Jo Sykes.

“He or she would have full access to workshops, rehearsals, technical fit-up and performances from early February 2018 to mid-July (the performances are 27th June – 14th July).”

Jo added: “We loved working with Tony and Dai and we really hope that we can do something similar again next year.”

This would be an unpaid role – all intellectual property would be held by the artist, but Chester Mystery Plays would wish to use material produced, without charge, to help in the promotion of the plays - for example in PR material and on the website.

If you would like to be involved, send your details and a statement describing your work (with a link to online examples of your work if available) to cmpadmin@chestermysteryplays.com.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 5th January 2018.
