Conservative parliamentary candidate for Crewe and Nantwich, Dr Kieran Mullan recently joined a walking netball session at Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
The visit is part of Kieran’s efforts to promote sport and fitness, and comes as the sport enjoys a new resurgence along with the England team’s success at the Commonwealth Games last year.
As well as this, the Netball World Cup 2019 is coming to Liverpool (12th-21st July 2019).
In Crewe, weekly walking netball sessions are held on a Wednesday (10-11am) and people with all skill and fitness levels are welcome.
Speaking after the session, Kieran said: “I love sport and getting and staying fit means people can keep active for longer.
“It is never too late to give something new a go or get back into something.”
He added: “When my sister was babysitting me she would drag me along to play netball and it was great fun to try it out again.
“The ladies are incredibly friendly and welcoming and we managed to completely avoid the topic of Brexit for the whole hour!”
Cheshire Netball development officer Gemma Finney – who runs the sessions in Crewe and others across the region – commented: “People of all ages and fitness levels take part and we would encourage anyone interested in trying it out to come along.”
