NHS staff across Cheshire are getting set to put on their running shoes on Saturday (9th June) to celebrate 70 years of the NHS.
The upcoming edition of the weekly Parkrun at Queens Park in Crewe has been dedicated to promoting the work of our local NHS community.
NHS South Cheshire CCG and NHS Vale Royal CCG are encouraging all generations of NHS staff – whether retired, currently working in the NHS or a trainee – to join in.
You can attend on your own or as a group of porters, nurses or office staff… the choice is yours!
The event is a chance to have some fun and celebrate the contribution members of staff make to the NHS.
Clare Watson, chief officer at the CCGs, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for NHS staff and clinicians to meet up and share their stories of working within our local NHS.
“Some families have a long history of working within the NHS and we hope to see grandparents, parents and the future generation taking part.”
Clare added: “The Parkrun is a great way of maintaining good physical and mental wellbeing, helping you to stay fit and connect with other people over a post run coffee.
“I’d also like to thank everyone at Parkrun for joining in these national celebrations.”
Launched by double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, more than 280 local Parkruns will be hosting special events to celebrate the contribution of the NHS whilst encouraging people to get active.
With support from local NHS bodies, Parkruns nationwide will give their regular events a special NHS theme for the day with NHS staff, patients and the wider public all encouraged to attend.
The NHS officially turned 70 yesterday (5th July 2018).
It provides the perfect opportunity, therefore, to celebrate the achievements of one of the nation’s most loved institutions, to appreciate the vital role the service plays in our lives, and to recognise and thank the extraordinary NHS staff.
The special Parkrun series is just one of a number of initiatives that are being organised as part of the national celebration.
The event takes place on Saturday 9th June at 9am at Queens Park, Victoria Avenue, Crewe, CW2 7SE.
If you are not a member of Parkrun, you will need to register online in advance to take part. It is free to register, and you can find out more at: www.parkrun.org.uk/crewe
