RHS Tatton Flower Show 2018 – top five

Shares

It’s fair to say that 2018 is a huge year for the RHS Tatton Flower Show, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year!

To mark the occasion, The RHS has unveiled the top 5 things visitors can expect to enjoy at the show, teasing us with the promise of some surprise birthday celebrations:

1. The Poisonous Garden

For the very first time, visitors are invited to step inside ‘The Poisonous Garden’ and discover the gruesome, and sometimes deadly, nature of the UK’s best loved plants.

Daring visitors can surround themselves with peril as plants and flowers drip from the ceiling in the ‘poison tunnel’ or get lured in by pretty plant species that have a hidden deadly charm.

Show goers will have the chance to get dangerously close to carnivorous plants and their prey, and learn more about the myths and folklore surrounding our ancient flora

2. Sunshine Field

A giant flower motif made up of 5,800 sunshine yellow Rudbeckia hirta Prairie Sun will provide the photo moment of the Tatton Flower Show – and with yellow flowers representing joy, happiness, friendship and pride, it’s pretty much Tatton summed up in a flower!

3. Tenth year of RHS Young Designer Competition

In celebration of a milestone ten years, a record number of five finalist will compete for the coveted title of RHS Young Designer 2018.

The renowned competition has kick-started the careers of many successful award-winning designers over the past decade, a number of whom will return to tell their stories at the anniversary show.

4. The Flower School

New for 2018, The Flower School offers a creative, hands-on experience with an array of talks and workshops on everything floral from flower crowns to growing your own cut flower patch.

Local florists and nurseries will be creating seven foot high flower towers, giving show goers the opportunity to vote for their favourite on social media throughout the week.

5. Floral Birthday Bonanza!

Friday 20th July will take full focus of the 20 year celebrations as a birthday party and colourful parade steal the show.

Show manager Isobel Coulter, commented: “This year is set to be one of the most exciting we have ever seen at RHS Tatton Park as we celebrate a whopping 20 years of a colourful, friendly and fun day out!

“Full of innovative design, hands-on gardening, youth in horticulture, and some of the best growers in the country, 2018 encapsulates exactly what RHS Tatton is all about.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors old and new to join us for a bumper birthday celebration!”
