AEHC players rally to support a member of the ‘hockey family’

Kind sentiments for fellow hockey player from Denbigh

Alderley Edge Hockey Club’s Men’s Fifth team captain, Jon Talbot, handed over a cheque for £250 when his team took on Denbigh in North West Division 5 this weekend.

(Kind sentiments off the pitch were not reflected during play, as AEHC beat their opponents 2-1. You can read more in this week’s roundup of results from the club.)

The funds were handed over to support Denbigh club member Ben Rawson whose crowdfunding efforts have the aim of buying the best possible prosthetic leg following his diagnosis with Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Ewing’s Sarcoma is a rare form of bone cancer which will result in Ben losing his left leg in order to optimise his future chances of survival.

Aged just 21 yers old, Ben has completed six cycles of pre-operative chemotherapy and faces further treatment in Wales and at Manchester’s Christie Hospital following his amputation.

His friends and family have set up a campaign to focus on securing him the best possible prosthetic limb which will they hope will ultimately see Ben being able to get back to competitive hockey and university.
