Wilmslow Half Marathon team launched with Olympian Jenny Meadows
Cheadle Hulme School and North West physiotherapy practice Harris & Ross have together launched a Wilmslow Half Marathon team to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The team got to know each other at an event last night (Monday 4th December), at Harris & Ross’s Wilmslow clinic.
They were treated to the expert guidance on their training, preparation & recovery from clinic director Jeff Ross and given gait analysis & advise from Harris & Ross podiatrist Tom Johnson.
They were also joined by Great Britain athlete, Olympian and World and European medallist Jenny Meadows, along with her trainer Trevor Painter who gave the team insight into her gruelling training schedule pre retirement and how to adapt it to your ability levels.
Team Captain Jeff Ross said: “We are really proud to be part of the CHS half marathon squad.
“We’re looking forward to facing the challenge together, and raising lots of money for Teenage Cancer Trust.
“We are pleased to offer our physiotherapy services to the team throughout the training process from physio, to sports massage and gait analysis- hopefully with our support every team member will reach their goal time!”
Cheadle Hulme School prides itself on having students who strive to be active and altruistic and the team is encouraging the wider CHS community to become a part of this with 15 parents, 13 staff, 4 alumni (Old Waconians) and 3 students all running for them in the March event.
Charlotte Sills of CHS commented: “We are running in honour of students and former students of CHS who are currently battling, or have lost their battles with, cancer.
“Inspired by student, Callum Ballantine, who devoted the last year of his life to raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, we will be donating all money raised to this worthwhile charity.”
She added: “The team’s current target is £1,000 but we’re hoping to go above and beyond this.”
The team is made up of 35 runners ranging from complete half marathon beginners, to marathon regulars.
The team will continue to meet over the next few months to share training updates, work on their race strategy and receive treatment.
Former Olympian Jenny Meadows said: “I love to encourage as many people as possible to take up running and this is for such a worthwhile cause.
“It was great to meet such an enthusiastic team and myself and Trevor will be keeping up with their progress and offering advice as the marathon draws near. Who knows, I might just join in with them on the day!”
Wilmslow Half Marathon takes place on 18th March 2018.
