Students gain valuable experience at charity boxing match

Creative Media HNC students from Macclesfield College have gained valuable experience whilst filming a charity boxing match recently.

The charity boxing match, in memory of Danny McCallum who served in Cheshire Constabulary for 28 years, was held at The Midlands Hotel in Manchester on Friday 21st September.

Danny was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer last September and died earlier this year in January.

Macclesfield College’s in-house media agency ‘BigMacc Productions’ – run by Yeng Roberts and current Creative Media Production students – was tasked with filming the event.

The students who filmed and edited the video included Estelle Hulse, Tom Thomas, Jake Lownds, Callam Swinton and Adam Horsley.

They used the opportunity to upskill and test their filming, editing and production management skills, as well as gaining the essential experience needed to do this in a live setting.

Yeng Roberts saw the event as invaluable experience for the students.

She said: “The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves as everything they’ve ever filmed has been pre-planned, so having the opportunity to film an event where anything goes is hugely valuable and makes their CVs stand out.”

Yeng continued: “Industry experience is what the Creative Media department prides itself on, and we’re extremely proud with how professional they were at the event.”

The evening is expected to have raised in excess of £15,000 from the proceeds of the ticket sales, sponsorship, raffle and auction, as well as a huge £5,600 raised via the JustGiving page.

The event raised funds for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and The Hospice of Good Shepherd.

Additional money is hoped to be raised for the charities through the sale of photographs taken by the students at the event and through DVD sales of their video.
