Children’s toy retailer The Entertainer has exchanged contracts with Cheshire West and Chester Council to open its latest store at Barons Quay in Northwich.
Selling brands such as Lego, LOL Dolls and Paw Patrol as well as Disney and Marvel toys, the new store is looking to attract families into Northwich.
It will come as quite a relief to council bosses, who’ve struggled to attract big name tenants to the Barons Quay development.
The Entertainer is the first retailer to officially be announced as taking on one of the Barons Quay shop units.
It will join the existing Odeon cinema, Wildwood restaurant as well as the Marks and Spencer department store and Asda supermarket at the development.
Local press report that fashion retailer H&M is set to join, and Sports Direct is also expected to open in the near future according to reports.
It looks as though the £80 million venture, still dubbed by many locals as a white elephant, may finally be turning a corner in attracting occupants.
Cabinet member for economic development and infrastructure, Cllr Brian Clarke said: “This is exciting news for the town and for local residents.
“Negotiations are currently underway with several other retail and leisure businesses and we would hope to announce these over the coming weeks and months.”
He continued: “The council has always seen Barons Quay as a long-term commitment and just one part of a wider regeneration programme for the town centre.”
Andrew Milner-Walker, head of property at The Entertainer said: “We pride ourselves on being the best loved toy shop; one that creates memories and delivers outstanding customer service so that families want to keep coming back.
“We chose Northwich as it’s a town with big ambitions, and we see The Entertainer as being part of the transformation of what is already a busy and vibrant place to shop.”
Handover of the 3,000 square foot unit – close to ASDA and Marks & Spencer – is planned for the end of September, with the toy store anticipated to open in plenty of time for Christmas!
