Cheshire West and Chester Council’s road safety team is promoting a course for Approved Driving Instructors which aims to reduce collisions amongst young and inexperienced drivers.
The award-winning ‘Engage’ classroom-based course is available to support driving instructors to further develop the vital client-centred learning (CCL) skills required to meet the new Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency checks.
CCL is an educational approach that takes into account how the learner prefers to learn. When people learn in this way they are more likely to retain information and skills.
Research has shown that people are also more likely to keep learning if they are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning at an early stage.
Topics covered on the course will include: lesson planning, reflective and active learning strategies, problem solving and risk management.
The council’s cabinet member for environment, Cllr Karen Shore said: “The Engage programme is an innovative scheme for Approved Driving Instructors working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire Road Safety Partnership and Merseyside Road Safety Partnerships.”
The course usually costs £140 but the partnership has obtained additional funding is therefore able to offer the course at a cost of £50.
The training dates are as follows and instructors will need to attend both days:
- DAY 1 – Tuesday 26th June 2018 at Cheshire County Sports Club, (The Clubhouse) Mannings Lane, Hoole Village, Chester, CH2 4EU
- DAY 2 – Tuesday 17th July 2018 at Cheshire County Sports Club, (The Clubhouse) Mannings Lane, Hoole Village, Chester, CH2 4EU
