The Wilmslow Guild Players have started their new season which means a play is right around the corner.

‘In Praise of Love’, written by Terence Rattigan will be performed at the Wilmslow Guild from
30th October to 2nd November 2019.

Owen Le Blanc is the director for In Praise of Love.

“I was drawn to the play because it is very positive,” explained Owen.

“Every character has a genuine side and in ways that are difficult to explain, I find all the characters have a certain attraction.”

He continued: “There is a main theme that I was intrigued with, how people support each other when they really need it and I hope audiences will take from this production that we should recognise and value love when we find it.

“I have been directing at the Wilmslow Guild Players since 1991, so more than 25 years.

“I always find my favoured part of the directing process is discovering new sides to some of the characters in the play, and perhaps understanding the dialogue better.”

Detailing the history of the play, Owen said: “Interestingly, the play was originally staged as one of a pair of plays: the first (After Lydia) and the second (Before Dawn) were called In Praise of Love together.

“The second play was not well received, and isn’t usually done anymore, and the name In Praise of Love was transferred to the first play.

“The character of Sebastian is supposed to be based on Rex Harrison, whom Rattigan had known for nearly 40 years when he wrote this play.”

The Wilmslow Guild Players are based on Bourne Street in the Wilmslow Guild, where they transform the guild hall into a great little theatre.

Tickets are available now, and you can book them online at www.wgp.org.uk.

The performance starts at 7.45pm and lasts until 10pm, there is no booking fee and tickets are £8 (£6 on Wednesday).
