In 2019, Crewe-based car dealers Mike Brain and Jack Hughes took an un-loved Toyota Corolla and turned her into a ‘camouflage queen’ named Betsy.
They then took her on the drive of her life, entering the Two Ball Banger Rally and raising funds for Leighton Hospital labour ward in the process.
This year, the twosome will be joined by their colleague, Edward Hark, and aim to raise £2,500 for St Luke’s Hospice
Edward explained the motivation behind their fundraising: “Jack lost his dad last year, and St Luke’s made sure he had wonderful, dignified care until he passed away.
“I lost my mum to cancer when I was 18 and she was cared for in the hospice movement too, as was my dad who I lost when I was 29.
“Jack is only 26, so as young men we wanted to do something to support those who supported us and our parents.”
The intrepid trio have taken a poorly VW Passat and turned into a Mad Max-style machine, called Betty.
They’ve named themselves the Cheshire Boys Banger Rally Team. You can follow and support them on JustGiving, Facebook and Instagram.
