Gearing up for Macclesfield Bikeathon 2020

Cyclists are gearing up to welcome back Macclesfield Bikeathon once again this year.

The event proved popular in the town last year, when is returned following a near-20 year hiatus.

The Bikeathon, which is funded by Macclesfield Town Council, returned in 2019 and saw around 200 riders taking part.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 16th May and money raised will go to local charity Just Drop-In.

All rides will all start and end in Market Place in the Macclesfield town centre. Here there will be lots of family activities and stalls to enjoy.

There will be three route options:

Family Ride

A 12-mile ride which heads north out of Macclesfield, along the Middlewood Way towards Poynton where the route joins the road and heads south back towards Macclesfield.

Cheshire Plain Ride

A 33-mile route around the beautiful Cheshire Plain with its quiet hedgerow-lined lanes.

This route heads west from Macclesfield towards Jodrell Bank then North towards the feed station at Great Warford Baptist Church.

It then goes on to Alderley Edge and Mottram St Andrew before returning to Macclesfield town centre.

Challenging Ride

For those looking for a more challenging ride, there is a 64 mile route on offer.

This option heads towards Tatton Park, through more country lanes to Byley where the route turns for home, past the refreshment stop and the final push back to Macclesfield to collect finishers goodies.
