Cllr Andrew Malloy is Knutsford’s mayor for the civic year 2019/2020.
Cllr Malloy was elected as mayor of Knutsford on Monday 20th May 2019, and was preceded by Cllr Peter Coan.
Andrew’s wife Nicole is mayoress, and the mayor’s cadet this year is Cadence Grace of 2056 (Knutsford) Squadron Air Training Corps.
Andrew has also (unofficially) appointed his two young sons Adam and Luis as junior consorts, and they will be joining him on as many mayoral engagements as possible.
Andrew has lived in Knutsford since 2007, having first moved to Cheshire with his family back in 1988, living in Middlewich and Winnington previously.
He was first elected as a councillor on Knutsford Town Council in 2011.
We asked Cllr Malloy a few questions to find out more about the first citizen of Knutsford…
1. Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Andrew Malloy, I am 45 years old, and have been on Knutsford Town Council for eight years. Prior to that I was a member of the Town Plan since 2008.
I have been married to Nicole for nearly 16 years, and have two children, Adam and Luis, plus a cat, Peanut.
In 2014, I established the Knutsford Beer Festival, holding our first event in 2015, raising over £16k for charity from our first four events.
2. What are you most looking forward to in your term as mayor?
I am looking forward to meeting as many people as possible during my year and taking part in many fun activities, getting hands on with as many as possible.
3. Which local causes will you be supporting during your time as mayor?
I am doing something a little different this year, we hope to establish a mayor’s charity, and use that to support the establishment of a skate park – and hopefully a new youth council will be able to facilitate and support a range of local charitable and community youth sports clubs.
4. What is the best thing about your town / area?
The community spirit is amazing in Knutsford, we have so many amazing community groups and volunteers, without whom so many activities simply would not happen.
5. What else do you have planned for this year?
I will be taking on two sponsored challenges, a cycle ride around Cheshire East Borough, of around 100 miles, and I will hike around the three peaks of Cheshire.
I also hope to work with many sporting clubs to put on a weekend of sporting showcases to show off what is available for young people in our town.
